OK, maybe I'm still a bit of a control freak. After all, I AM ATTEMPTING TO CONTROL THE OVERPOPULATION of free-roaming cats for god's sweet sake!
I guess I'm saying I'm LESS of a Control Freak lately.
It is coming to more and more LIGHT to me that I need help in what I do. Since starting to use fosters and volunteers, I've been able to help WAY more cats.
At Brooknelle, my utilizing the time and efforts of my very generous volunteers has given me back my life.
With regard to fostering, I'm learning to entrust my cats to the loving hands of people who want to help get cats adopted into forever homes.
This kind of work can not be done alone.
Most recently, I have really worked with people who catch cats to go one step further and foster them until they are adopted, eliminating my need to handle the cat during this very important step in RESCUE.
So far this year, at least 20 kitten litters have been adopted into forever homes with my help but not my having to actually handle the cats besides spay/neuter and vaccines.
Once I feel a caregiver is up to the task, I assist in trapping and direct them in taming the kittens and getting them adopted. I feature the cats and kittens on petfinder for the foster/caregiver and once the cats are adopted, I take their posts off petfinder.
With NO MORE FREE KITTENS schooling from yours truly, WAY more cats and kittens are going into more responsible homes and not simply being given away like trade show freebies.
I'm proud of the work that's being done.
But I need help. I need more volunteers to staff Brooknelle so that I 1) don't burn out my existing volunteers and 2) don't run my own self ragged.
By delegating my laundry duties to my most amazing and fabulous Laundry Opps Specialist, Tammy Singer, I'm able to free up a lot of my own personal time to do other Rescue work.
It is my wish to have at least one person besides myself come to Brooknelle each day to feed, medicate and clean up after the cats.
In addition to this, I'd like one more person to do recovery work sometime on Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday to just clean any used traps/carriers and do some overall cleaning of the place including maybe sweeping and wiping down some surfaces with bleach water.
I despretely need a place to foster adoptable kittens until they can find forever homes. Currently I have 20 cats in my cat/kitten room and with all the overweight adults I have in there, I simply can not feed any of the kittens KITTEN FOOD, and they should be having it.
I need someone to foster kittens and make sure they are being properly de-wormed and kept up with until they are re-homed. This person can aid in determining proper homes by spending time with the perspective human parents. Adoption is not the focus of my RESCUE work, as you all know...but is has become a great part of my work. And while I think it's still important aspect of RESCUE, I need to focus my attention on the task at hand and that is to FIX EVERY CAT I CAN COME IN CONTACT WITH. There are rescues to do adoption. If mine is to continue to do adoptions of friendly cats, I need some help.
OK, there, I've said it! I'm not super woman. I need help. I'm begging for qualified help. This task will not cost any money except gasoline to come and go with kittens. But mostly once you have them, they will stay with you till they are adopted.
This is kitten season. It will die down in the winter so there will be a few months where there are no kittens and you can have a normal life. But till winter time....we need to rehome these kittens whose births I wasn't able to circumvent.
HELP!
