Operation CS - Round 5 Update

Hello Feral Friends-

Monday night, Barb Olson rode shotgun again (thanks so much Barb). We dropped Fuzzy, Schnikelfritz and Sidney off to their new and returning homes and then we picked up 8 cats from residents at the park. I even gathered up a beautiful black and white medium haired stray boy who was sitting under a car but came out when offered stinky wet food. Turns out he was already neutered. Better check the balls more closely next time! It wasn't for nothing though, the boy was tested and given a felv shot and had his ear tipped, so at least now I won't gather him up a second time!

All 8 tested negative so Tuesday started off well, until pick up time. I found one of the cats had passed away between surgery and pick up. He came out of surgery fine and was awake and getting more alert as the time passed, but sometime after 4pm, he left us. Dr. Langlois did an autopsy on him and determined that he had a bum ticker. Probably something hereditary.

Zig's owner was saddened by the news but was comforted by an offer of a kitten from the park. So she adopted an adorable black and white tuxedo boy that was one of 4 kittens that were fixed that day. I have lots of cedar springs kittens and lucky for me, people in the park are taking them. Whew!

So while the day was sad, at least we didn't find any FELV and a kitten managed to find a home!

Tonight I will be joined by my new dear and wonderful friend Lisa Kader who will help me scoop up and trap strays in the park for surgery tomorrow! Lisa and her darling husband Larry run a chinchilla rescue. She calls it...get this...how cute it this....CHINtuituon! She just was recognized both nationally and internationally as a chin rescue. Here is her site: http://www.geocities.com/chintuition

Thank you all who have donated money to this project. I think it will probably run me about 2K to get all the cats tested and vaccinated for FELV. With your help, I will contine to do all I can for the cats of Cedar Springs!

Thanks for reading!

Operation CS - Round Three Update

Hello Feral Friends-

Last Wednesday, Dr. Langlois was out of town, so we couldn't have any surgeries done...but we did get cats who were previously fixed (yeah...can you believe it) tested for felv. I brought 6 cats into the office and all were tested and all were negative! Yeah!

Lisa Kader rode shotgun with me for the pick ups! It was a quick turn around for the kitties but an exhausting day for me.

This week we are back with normal vet hours so I'm taking a group of owned cats in tomorrow for spay/neuter and testing and Wednesday, I'll start to pick up strays as I have gotten all the owned cats done. Well, not ALL the owned cats...but those who have called on me. So far the total of cats fixed is 30. 40 were tested and 6 were positive for felv.

I am bringing a stray back to her owner who wasn't able to care for her, but now can take her back....that's Sidney the beautiful ultra friendly gray girl. She is sooooo sweet. Sue will be happy to have her back...no doubt. And Schnikelfritz is going to live with Ruth and Jaycee. And Fuzzy is going to find a home with Pam whose beloved kitty was euthanized two weeks ago.

The kitties I find in the park are staying in the park if I have my way about it. If I can place the cats in a home GREAT! If not, I will just put them back where I found them.

Have a groovy day!

Operation CS - Round Three Update

Hello Feral Friends-

Yesterday Barb Olson road shotgun and we picked up 8 owned and two stray cats. Today they were tested and fixed....and I'm happy to report....all were negative for FELV! Many happy cat owners. One kitten belongs to Pam, a woman whose cat I had to have euthanized last week. As you can imagine, she was absolutely elated to find that the new kitten was healthy.

Thank you Barb for helping me yesterday. And thank you Stu for dropping kits off with me tonight. Gosh, it goes so much easier with a partner!

Tomorrow, I'm meeting with Lisa Kader (a wonderful park resident who along with her darling husband, Larry run a chinchilla rescue). What amazing creatures, the chins are. I had never met one personally. If you know anyone who wants a chinchilla, please contact me and I'll put you in touch with Lisa and Larry! Anyway...Lisa will help me tomorrow in collecting cats for testing and vaccinating only. Yes, there are actually "fixed" cats in Cedar Springs!!! And those are going to be tested tomorrow with a quick turn around back to their owners!

I'm finding myself in a situation with lots of Cedar Spring Kittens that I don't want to release back into the park. I'm OK with releasing adults, but the kittens are going to be tough to send back out there. If you want a kitten, I have freshly tested, fixed and first felv immunized kittens available for immediate adoption. IF YOU KNOW ANYONE WHO MIGHT LIKE TO HELP PLACE A CEDAR SPRINGS KITTEN, PLEASE LET ME KNOW! THESE BABIES DESERVE A BREAK! Same goes for adults of course! And if you can foster one or two, I'd love to hear from you too!!! I'm out of cage space!!!!

Thank you all for reading and keeping up with my project. So far, the stats are: 30 cats pulled from park in three rounds. 4 tested positive. The rest were returned to their owners or are up for adoption or will be released back into the park.

Not included in the stats are two that tested positive two weeks ago, prior to my starting this project. And these totals do not include Nathaniel and Omar who went to Big Sids in April. Omar was put to sleep two months ago. I have his ashes. Bless you Jen for giving Omar and Nathaniel a place to live out their lives in safety, happiness and being loved and cared for!

Omar, this is for you little buddy!!!

With much kitty love,
Carol

Operation CS - Round Two Update

Hello Feral Friends-

Wednesday evening I picked up 9 cats from the park. Thursday morning I waited for a call from Dr. Langlois to tell me how many were felv positive. I never got a call. I finally rang the office at noon and received the good news! "NO CATS WERE POSITIVE TODAY!!" Yeah! As you can imagine...I was on cloud nine! Nine cats...cloud nine! Nine lives...should go play that number somewhere!

Anyway....Thursday was a good day! Returned the cats to their owners in the evening and am finding myself getting more support than I imagined. I met a WONDERFUL couple (Lisa and Larry Kader) who do chinchilla rescue. These two are the epitome of animal lovers! Lisa offered to ride along with me during pick up and drop offs. Bless you Lisa....I'm going to take you up on that. Another little girl in the park also offered her services and so far, some folks have actually given me some money to help me with the project.

It's coming along beautifully!

Last night Sharon and Sandy called me with a kitten emergency. A young girl brought a kitten to them with a bum leg. I made it out there at about 11pm and picked it up. Back left leg looks to have a problem, but it's not causing little Schnikelfritz any major discomfort as he/she was climbing the cage after eating a huge amount of nibbly bits! Dr. Langlois will see him on Monday morning.

Thank you for all your good thoughts, and support. It helps a great deal...just knowing that I have you all with me on this project!

much love
Carol

Operation CS - Round One Update

Hello Feral Friends-

On Monday I picked up 11 cats that were scheduled at the Sunday meeting. A sweet guy named Jason who scheduled his cat Demon for neuter asked me to look at his Mama cat (Smokey) and her three kittens. One was pretty much near death from flea bites. I took the 11 cats (along with Smokey and her brood to Dr. Langlois' office and got them settled in for the night with some water (no food the night before surgery). Dr. Langlois tested the Mama kitty for FELV and she was thanfully negative. The little kitten who was near death could have had a blood transfusion, but I decided that it would be best to just let her go. So Bruce euthanized her for me. I took Smokey and two remaining kittens back to my place and got them started on clavamox for goopy and "glued shut" eyes.

24 hours later and kittens are doing better, eating on their own and getting goopy eyes cleaned 3x daily.

Of the 11 cats that were taken in for spay/neuter today, 4 tested positive for FELV. When you include Smokey in the totals, that boils down to 1/3 of the cats in the park are positive for FELV. AND THESE ARE THE OWNED CATS!!! I shudder to think the percentages of infection in the strays which probably outnumber the owned cats by 200%.

I made the calls to the owners of the cats that were euthanized. First one was pretty tough, but I kept in mind that by euthanizing them, they were being spared a really horrible death.

Tonight I returned 7 cats to the park. Owners were elated to see their cats come home. Though some were a little wobbly and all had a new funny looking left ear, all cats were far better off now than they were 24 hours ago! Two females were pregnant so by spaying them, we saved another 6-10 unwanted cats from being born into the park.

When I arrived at the park, I realized that the kitten that Sharon and Sandy gave me to fix didn't have a home. They rescued her Monday morning when they found her stuck up in a tree on their lot. I had totally forgotten that this one kitten would need to come back with me, so Kee Kee came along for the ride.

Not knowing what to do with Kee Kee as we are chalk full at the adoption center (and I just took these two kittens of Smokey, I decided to ask a really cool couple who had a cat returned tonight if they might like to help a kitten in need. They happily agreed and now Kee Kee has a home with the McDaniels Family and their cat Mysterie and black lab puppy (whose name I didn't catch because he isn't a cat). If you aren't a feline....I might not even notice you!

So while the day started off a little sad with a call from Dr. Langlois with the euthanasia statistics, it ended with 7 cats being fixed and vaccinated! Not bad for two days work!

Tomorrow I will return to pick up 9 cats. Then on Thursday I'll bring them back. If anyone wants to ride shotgun with me and help out sometime, just say the word. The task would go much easier with two!

Thanks for reading!

Operation Cedar Springs - Enthusiastic Response!

Hello Feral Friends-

Gina Marvin, Erica Carranco and I arrived on the scene at Cedar Springs ready to spread the word about Feline Leukemia. What we learned was that these folks that showed up....(about 20 of them) know FELV better than any of us. They have witnessed many cats dying and told us stories of several others in the park who look sickly.

I gave my schpeel about FELV and my plans for the park. All cat owners agreed to my taking their cats in for surgery and when they are sedated, having blood drawn and tested for FELV. They understand that if the cat tests NEGATIVE, it will get it's first FELV vaccine to be boostered later. They agreed to having the cat's left ear tipped so that I can recognize it as "fixed" and healthy later when I start doing TNR of the strays. And they agreed that if thier cat tests POSITIVE, that the most humane thing to do will be to euthanize.

They all signed agreement forms and this week, I'm picking up 17 cats for testing and spay/neuter. I have no doubt that I'll be getting a lot more calls as the week progresses and people see that I mean business in that park!

I am not under any illusion that I will totally rid the park of FELV. All it will take is for me to miss ONE cat and the cycle will begin again. But I'm hoping to spare the horrible slow death of those that are indeed infected and giving a fighting chance to those who are not. If nothing else, the residents now have a clue as to what they are dealing with. And we all know....knowledge is power!

Keep an eye out for my updates! You know how cathartic it is for me to type you all!

Ciao for now!

Operation Cedar Springs Begins Today!

Hello Feral Friends-

Today is the big day! I've been welcomed into the park with enthusiasm. After distributing fliers around the park with the help of my dear friend Stu and a neighborhood girl Cassie, returned home to find 5 messages on my answering machine with folks wanting more information on feline leukemia! That was just what I needed! I wasn't sure there would be a great response. And without even having had the meeting, I have 5 male cats scheduled for pick up on Monday evening for Tuesday morning surgery!

I was afraid that people would not concent to my protocol which includes ear tipping each cat that we have fixed (to tell them apart from the strays when I go into TNR mode when the owned pets are done). But the owners understand and are OK with that. They also are coming to the realization that this is a horrible disease and that humane euthanasia is the way to go should their kitty test positive. So I have consent for that as well.

Today, Gina Marvin and Erica Carranco of Focus on Ferals will be joining me for our informational meeting in the park. I have really good feelings about it. I'm glad that Amy pushed me to do it sooner than later. I had so much anxiety about this project that I nearly didn't get it off the ground. Thanks to Gina for offering me spay slots at the HS spayathon last weekend, I got myself back into the park! Thanks Gina and Amy for lighting the fire under me.

I have thought of those poor Cedar Springs cats non-stop since I went into that park that fateful day and met up with Angus (see me and Angus in the upper right corner of the blog). It's all because of this battered, scratched up orange tom, that I am in this park at all. Well, it's really because of Cheryl McCloud (Lake Haven Rescue) that I'm in the park....but it's Angus who stole my heart and keeps sending me back there to rescue more of his brethren.

For those of you who missed the news....Angus....that scraggly tom has been adopted! And he is LOVING LIFE!

Also, my dear, sweet wonderful Andy Hoban (Crash's Landing Volunteer) has been working with Gregory to bring him out of his shell. Remember Gregory? The big tabby tom that I trapped at Burger King way back in like April I think. He had the huge bloody holes behind his ears. Jen patched him up and took him to Crash's. There Andy fell in love with him. And now I hear that Andy may be ADOPTING him!!! I'll keep you posted!

Thanks for keeping up with me!

Fund Drive for Operation Cedar Springs!

Hello Feral Friends-

Yesterday I was called out to Cedar Springs Moblile Estates trailer park to pick up some cats that were not looking so good. Thankfully the young ones were fine. But one female adult that I ran across accidentally was not AT ALL! She was extremely emaciated and rail thin...a once beautiful tortie girl, now nothing but skin and bones. She was left behind along with three other intact cats when someone moved out of the park last year. A sweet young lady named Cassie watched out for her the best she could. From her skinny appearance, I suspected Feline Leukemia (felv) and took her and the other two cats to be tested for felv/fiv. The young ones tested negative, but "Mama" tested postive. There was no choice....I gave her a really nice meal of stinky canned food and had her euthanized. It was a really sucky day!

But now I have the attention of the park owner and management and I have their blessing to come into the park and do an informational seminar on spay/neuter and felv. I'm going to try to make it this coming Sunday if the planets align and it is meant to be.

The plan is to take as many cats in as possible for spay/neuter and test them for felv once they are under. If positive for felv, we will euthanize. If negative, we will fix them and give them a felv vaccine to be boostered later.

I am praying we can make a difference in that park. Once we get all the resident owned cats fixed, we can start fixing the strays. We may not get rid of all the felv, but we have to at least try our best.

This is where you can help. Knowing that most residents of that park are very tight on cash, I highly doubt that asking for money is going to get me anywhere except to disuade people from even talking to me. So spay/neuters are going to come from the funding of VPC. But the felv/fiv tests are going to cost us a bundle. While I can get the test done cheaper than anyone else just going to their own vet, they still run me $15 per test. Anyone want to donate $15 to have a cat tested? I will pay out of my pocket till my pockets are empty. But if I can have some help from some of you, that would be most awesome.

Sorry, but....I am not a non-profit and the donations will not be tax deductible.

If you can help me with this, please send a check made payable to Carol Manos. Email me at dollmouse@aol.com and I'll send you the address. Can't put my home addy on the blog.

Thanks for keeping up with me and the cats of Cedar Springs.
Carol

PS Please say a little prayer for my strength in dealing with this project. I know it's the humane way to go, but that doesn't ever make it easy.

Vicky's Pet Connection Promotions

Hello Feral Friends-

As most of you already know, Vicky's Pet Connection foots the bill for us to have ferals fixed by Dr. Langlois. We pay for our adoptables, but for ferals...it's all covered by Vicky and Nancy. They also pay for countless cats and dogs to be fixed via C-SNIP. Their monthly spay/neuter bills are astronomical. We need to do all we can as a community to help VPC continue to do the good work it does for cat and dogs of Grand Rapids.

The following is a snipit of what they have going on in the near future. Please help by supporting some of their fund raising efforts. The best thing about these particular fund raisers is that they don't require us to put out money. It's not like a donation jar. We get something for every penny we spend or for anything we donate for recycling. So check it out and help VPC help us!

Details are also available via the VPC website at www.vickyspetconnection.com. Look at links on page titled: EVENTS and NEWS AND UPDATES to learn more.

Here are three excellent giving opportunities:

VPC and Cartridges for Kids Work Together to Raise Money and Help the Environment

Don’t throw away empty printer cartridges, cell phones, laptops or PDAs! You can help us to raise some extra money that will support our program and keep reusable trash out of our landfills.

Vicky’s Pet Connection is using Cartridges for Kids ® to recycle laser and ink jet cartridges along with cell phones, laptops and PDAs. All proceeds will go directly to VPC.

You are invited to bring in items from home or work and drop them in the collection boxes located at these CHOW HOUND locations; 6787 28th Street SE, 5265 Northland Drive or 740 28th Street SE.

If your business would like to recycle, pickups of 20 or more cartridges can be arranged by calling Cartridges for Kids Program Coordinator, Mary Meehan at 616-460-0538.

In addition to much needed funds, we can all make a difference by recycling. Here are some facts:

· More than 3 quarts of oil are required to produce each new laser cartridge

· The plastics used in inkjet cartridges take 10 centuries to decompose

· 250 million pounds of cartridges are thrown into landfills annually

· 500 million cell phones will go into landfills this year alone

· Personal electronics, like cellphones and PDAs contain toxic elements, such as lead, which are harmful to groundwater.

Viva! Gina Marvin!

Hello Feral Friends-

Many of you already know Gina Marvin of Focus on Ferals. She is basically a one woman TNR machine and has done a great deal of good for the cats of the greater Grand Rapids area. When I met her last fall, I was in awe. Now that I myself am into TNR I just simply worship her. She never sleeps and will risk life and limb for stray and feral cats.

This was very aptly proven this weekend when the Humane Society coupled up with The MSU Vet School and ran a huge SPAYATHON for rescue groups. Gina had about 100 slots available between Thursday, Friday and Saturday. She put out her feelers and got 92 cats fixed through her amazing orchestration.

Randy (of Roxanne and Randy - Katrina and Hell House Cat Fosters) single-handedly brought in 44 cats from Wayland and Grand Rapids. He completely steralized a whole colony of cats living in the garage of his mother's neighbor in the Coit/Knapp area.

I knew of some cats in Bailey and Allegan that needed fixing, so Gina had those gals bring their cats to her each morning as she got up at the crack of dawn to help people with cats who she had never even spoken to before. She was there at the pick up time too....organizing the paperwork and making sure the cats were fine and ready to go home with the respective "bringer inner".

Gina...she really is a lifesaver! And I mean that literally. On Friday night at pick up time, a kitten got loose and ran straight for the huge pond behind the HS facility. Understanding it was under the effects of anestesia still, Gina knew the cat was in trouble and would drown if nobody went after it. She yelled out for someone to help the cat, but nobody did. So guess what...
yeah...you guessed it! Gina jumped right into the pond and saved the kitten. Kitty was shaken up and put on a dose of Clavamox for good measure. Gina dried off and called it "another day in cat rescue".

I want to personally thank Gina for orchestrating this massive spay/neuter event for us. We were even able to bring some of our adoptables in for fixing which saved us a great deal of cash. By taking advantage of MSU's generosity, Gina also saved Vicky's Pet Connection a bundle which means that they will be able to help even MORE animals in our community.

Gina, you are my hero! Thank you for all you do for the cats of Grand Rapids and beyond.

With much admiration-
Carol

Cedar Springs Update

Hello Feral Friends-

The day after my near "lynching" I got a call from the Cindy the Manager at the trailer park in Cedar Springs. I'm thinking my act of good faith in getting the kitty fixed, tested and vaccinated brought me into a better light. Cindy recovered my three missing traps. Seems I trapped a resident's owned cat and they were pissed off and hid two of them. Some kids swiped the third to trap squirrels, but it too was recovered. Whew! Now I can sleep at night. Thank you Cindy.

Now finally realizing the dismil situation at the park, I am going to be allowed to meet on a Sunday in the near future with residents and speak to them about the Feline Leukemia epedemic in the park and the importance of spaying and neutering thier pets (now....for even better reasons than just controlling the population). Gina Marvin (Focus on Ferals) and Amy Townsend (C-SNIP) will join me in this endeavor.

I am hoping that we can find a vet tech that can come and do on the spot testing of cats and kittens so that we can help the cat owners make a decision on what to do with their pets if they unfortunately test positive for felv.

We won't have a super happy ending here, but I hope that we can at least educate some people and put the fear of god in them that there are risks in letting cats wander outside.

Thanks for keeping up with me-
Carol

My worst fears confirmed!

Hello Feral Friends-

Last night as you know I made my foray into TNR of Friendlies. Where better to find them than Cedar Springs! So off I went to the trailer park, 11 traps, three carriers and lots of stinky food in my feral chariot. Here is how it went down! And nothing about it was good....AT ALL!

Picked up a sweet kitty that I knew from next door to where my cat loving friends lived. I've had my eye on him for a long time and wanted him fixed badly. He came along with no problem as expected. Plan was to fix him and return him on Saturday.

Baited 4 traps and put them out back by the dumpsters.

Drove down a street and found an approximately 3 month old kitten in the street by a car. Got out of car and found another walking toward him. Went and scooped them both up and put them into carriers where they chowed down on stinky soft food!

Drove down another street then doubled back to write down address of where kittens were picked up so I could drop them off after rehab. Spotted by what appeared to be a small lynch mob. People stopped me and I got out of car and tried to explain myself over much accusation and anger from the group.

Woman said that the kittens were hers. Manager accused me of taking cats and charging huge money to give them back. Remember incident 4 months ago where I was booted from park after taking a cat to sanctuary that was actually an owned pet. Maybe not as I don't think I published it on the blog....but many of you know the story. What happened was...I had tried to confirm ownership but park management said it was abandoned. She neglected to check the lease and once in the hands of the sanctuary, it was determined that cat was severely neglected and would not be returned to owner at least not without payment of medical bill that was in excess of $400. So I got a bad name....(which was not my fault) and was no longer allowed on the park property.

You will see the grave consequences of my being kicked out of this park as the story rolls on.

Anyway. I am not doing that well in explaining myself over accusation and hatred so I return kittens to owner, apologize for causing distress and attempt to leave. Manager has me open feral chariot to show other cats inside. There she finds the little guy I had just picked up. I am escorted to this friendly cat's owner to ask permission to take him to get fixed. A dear, sweet girl allows me to take cat after I sign a statement saying that I will NOT charge her anything, will NOT declaw the cat (as if...) and will bring him back as I found him. I do and add an additonal sentence stating that if cat passes away during surgery (which is a risk with all surgery...however slight), that I will bring back body of cat to prove that I'm not stealing it. Sick...but necessary! So she lets me take her sweet boy and I go with manager to pick up my 4 traps set at dumpsters.

But...only find one trap that is sprung with food eaten....but no cat inside. Other three traps have disappeared (better known as stolen). I think I must have some reputation in the hood and someone saw me setting traps and hates what I am doing and took them. I wish they had just smashed them and damaged them vs taking them because now there are three instruments of pure cat torture out in that park that can fall into the wrong hands. So now...I don't get to sleep at night!

At this point, I'm about as close to vomiting at I have ever been, but drive home crying the blues about my night to my friend Gina Marvin of Focus on Ferals who can completely understand my distress better than anyone else on the planet.

So I get home with The little guy, set him up in a comfy, cat nip sprinkled cage in the thankfully cool garage and go to bed.

Wake in the morning to take the cat to Dr. Langlois vs Humane Society as I want him to be feleuk tested just incase the disease has spread to the other side of the park. I got 13 cats out of that park and only two were feline leukemia positive and they were from way on the other side, so I was pretty sure that our dear little guy would be negative.

My worse fears confirmed! He is positive for FELV. And that means that everyone else in that park probably is now too! I really want to swear here, but won't as I do enough of that in speak and I don't need to put my truckdriver mouth into type. So you just fill in the blanks! _ _ _ _!!

So my day today pretty much sucks! I call owner of sweet boy kitty and break news to her. I tell her the prognosis and give her some options which are really NONE besides taking cat back and trying to keep him inside and away from other cats (thankfully she has no other cats) OR euthanize him now vs letting him get sick. Which I don't think is an option at all, but it is...know what I mean. Unfortunately, Big Sids is full and there is not a waiting list. So she and I talk and talk and decide that she will take him back. So the little man will return to his mother who obviously loves him dearly (apparent from her protection of him last night and tears today). And she will do her best to keep him from spreading the deadly disease to other cats in the park.

I have contacted management who will probably not do anything with my offer to do some education in the park regarding felv and the epidemic they have there, but I will continue to hound them till they let me do something!

What a bloody mess. I really couldn't be more tragic.

If only people kept their cats inside. If only people fixed their animals. If only more people than you and I cared. If only....

Thanks for listening to me ramble.
It's very cathartic at least!

TNR of "Friendlies" begins tonight

Hello Feral Friends-

Well the day has finally come! And I am going to need all of you to send your prayers my way for strength because I've been burying my head in the sand for long enough...and finally...I am going to do what I know needs to be done...though I hate it!

TNR of friendly cats is something I have never had to do. I have always found rescues to take in the cats I trapped at Cedar Springs. But there is no space for ALL the friendly cats out there! Even with our Adoption Center at Brooknelle, there is no room for ALL of them. So instead of just ignoring the problem, I'm going to begin trapping tonight...if the rain clears up. God help me....I don't want the rain to clear up! If it rains, I can't catch any. If I don't catch any, I don't have to get attached to them. Then I won't have to deal with the heartbreak of putting a friendly cat out back into what may not be a very good situation.

Then again, the cats have survived in Cedar Springs for years and have done fine. I have not seen any FELV or FIV in that park since the first trappings of Omar, Nathaniel and Angus. So hopefully it's gone. If I find one that looks ill, I'll get it tested and if positive, I will do whatever I can to help it.

I plan to give flea and ear mite treatment to all the cats I trap as well as first RCPC and FELV shots just to give them a little protection...though I won't be able to booster it.

Feral Friends, Please send positive thoughts and prayers my way. I'm really not happy that I am going to have to do this. But it's better than just letting them all multiply in that park!

On Sunday night I released Lily back to where she came from. Lily was a feral mom who had kittens under the porch of a dear lady named Chris. She gave us money to get mom fixed and find kittens homes. On Sunday at our adoption hours, we adopted out Lexington, her last kitten. 5 kittens found homes and Lily was set free. She was starting to come around and would allow petting but she probably would take years to get to adoptable status. I know because I have a semi feral cat (Buzzby) and it's taken two years and we still can't pick HER up! So rather than beat my head up against a wall trying to socialize a semi-feral mom, I set her free. I know she is happier now. She will continue to be fed by Chris and I hope with the shots that she got, she will stave off any illness and live a nice "free" life.

I also microchipped her just incase someone grabs her and decides to march her to her death at the animal shelter! I guess if that happens, I'll be called and she will be mine again. I'll let fate take it's course on that one!

Thanks for listening to me ramble on!
Have a beautiful day!
